Death, Taxes, & Dinner

"… in this world there is nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes [and figuring out what to eat for dinner]."

Hello!

Welcome to my little corner of the internet where I share a little of what I’ve been cooking and baking.

Benjamin Franklin famously wrote “… in this world nothing can be certain, except death and taxes.” In my life there is a third certainty; deciding what to have for dinner. Fortunately, I love the way cooking and baking nourishes us both in body and in spirit. I love how a favorite dish, prepared with care and love, can be a bright spot in someone’s day. I love the challenge of trying something new – a recipe, a technique, an unexpected (or intentional substitution), a new-to-me ingredient – and seeing how it turns out. For me, quotidian cooking and baking mirror life. Cooking and baking tend to create mess and chaos in the process of turning out something beautiful. Things don’t always work as expected, despite putting the right ingredients together in the right order. It is a daily reminder that we are perfectly imperfect and we will encounter delicious triumphs, inedible failures, and everything in between in the process of creating a meal. Sometimes the best we can do is learn from it all, have a good laugh, order takeout, and try again tomorrow. I’m so glad you are here. Pull up a chair and let’s get cooking!
